NUT TREE AIRPORT ACQUIRES MORE ACREAGE Airport Manager Andy Swanson announced that the County has purchased another parcel of land at the north end of the airport. This parcel, some 41 acres, will help insure that the land use around the Nut Tree Airport will be appropriate and support the airports future. This addition will make an extension to runway 2 a real possibility. SOLANO PILOTS MEMBERSHIP GROWTH HUGE Since January the Solano Pilots Association has erupted from about 20 to over 90! The Board of Directors made it their goal to grow the organizations membership to 100 by the end of August. It looks good that the goal will be realized. If you are a pilot in Solano County, a user of the counties airports or have an airplane stored at the Nut Tree Airport, YOU SHOULD JOIN.... FIXED BASE OPERATOR CONTRACT AWARD NEARS Solano County released the Request For Proposals (RFP) for a fixed base operator complex at the Nut Tree Airport on February 29, 2008. At long last, after months of delays, County Staff reports that they have picked an applicant and negotiations are taking place (Aug 2008). The County has been under a great deal of pressure to get off the mark and get the FBO selection finalized. We are looking forward to seeing the outcome. See the link on the left border to view the RFP.
Vacaville/Nut Tree Airport (VCB) Located in Vacaville, the 4,700ft. X 75ft. runway is lighted and paved. Our unicom frequency is 122.7. The original 3,800 ft runway gained an 800 foot extension during the first week of November, 2000! We feature an ASOS (134.75) which can be reached by dialing (707) 448-1594. No fixed base operator is currently at the field. The county offices and very nice restrooms for the public's use are available. A new pilot's lounge is promised but is not on line after several months of delay. Fuel and aircraft services are available at the airport. Along with storing and maintaining all sorts of airplanes, some aircraft restorations occur in the private hangers, nostalgia aircraft, warbirds, experimentals and more. We also have the aviation branch of Solano Community College on site, which is active teaching an A&P curriculum. Their facility includes a large hanger with aviation education classrooms. The County airport building has bathrooms available 24 hours. Soon the lobby will be open for flight planning and local telephone service. This is a project which is very welcome. As of January 2008 it has not yet come to fruition. News will follow concerning this development. I am afraid this project has stalled out and may not be revived for some time. Solano County owns and operates the airport, currently overseen by the department of General Services. Contact information is located in the left border. Andy Swanson is our airport manager. The Nut Tree airport can be found in the Pilot’s Guide to California Airports under Vacaville. Drop in, it’s an interesting place and it is within walking distance to great shopping and dinning. Nut Tree Airport located at 301 County Airport Road, Vacaville, CA 95688. For information concerning hangar and tie down rentals or lease of office space contact the county airport office listed to the left.
